Join Music Villa and Djembe House on Saturday, December 19th at 4pm for a free djembe drumming workshop. Maybe you’ve got a djembe and want to learn how to play it. Or perhaps you don’t have a djembe but are curious about it. Learn the basics of how to play the djembe drum with Raymond Burket from Djembe House, a school of West African Percussion here in Bozeman. You will learn the basic sounds of the djembe and how to play them properly as well as the basic elements of a djembe ensemble. We’ll work on a traditional African djembe rhythm and arrangement. Bring your djembe if you have it, otherwise Music Villa and Djembe House will have a limited number of drums available for participants to borrow.

Raymond Burket has been playing and teaching the djembe for over 15 years and hundreds of hours under the tutelage of Mamady Keita, one of the foremost djembe players and teachers in the world, as well as his wife Monette Marino-Keita. Raymond brings his experience in working with hundreds of students both as a teacher and an assistant to the Keitas as well as multiple trips to Guinea, West Africa to immerse himself in the music and culture.

In conjunction with the workshop Music Villa will be having a sale on all djembe’s. Take $20 off any djembe purchase during the workshop!

Saturday, December 19th, 2009. 4-6pm. FREE Admission.

Please contact Music Villa for further questions at (406) 587-4761.
