Tropical Montana Marimba Ensemble

Welcome to the Tribe! We are a group of friends and families living in the Flathead Valley of northwest Montana, that gather to play music on African style marimbas inspired by the traditions of the Shona Tribe of Zimbabwe.

Our music has its roots in the polyrhythmic mbira traditions of the Shona people of Zimbabwe, which made its way to the Pacific Northwest through Dumi Maraire. In 1985 members of the Grin and Bear It String Clan encountered the Marimba version of this music at the Northwest Folklife Festival, caught the spark, and the Tropical Montana Marimba Ensemble was born.

This is music to stir the soul and lighten the feet -- suitable for outdoor weddings, dancing and hula hooping on green grass, or a concert in a formal auditorium (though people just can't help but get up and move around)
Members include Bill Boggs, Helen Pilling, Sarah Burdick, Dave Streeter, Barbara Calm, Cissy Booth, Julie Bates, Jason Foy, McKenna Flannigan
