Kelly Close

Mypicture

My name is Kelly Close and I am the owner/teacher of the Earth Bones Voice Studio at the Emerson Center. I teach private lessons in singing (all levels and styles) and Voice Body Integration as well as group lessons in voice/performance, managing performance anxiety, sight singing/music theory fundamentals and Voice Body Integration. Voice Body Integration is an holistically alternative way to explore vocal expression. It is based upon methods used in Voice Movement Therapy, an expressive arts therapy used to help individuals explore the self, free up and enhance vocal expression by means of vocalization, movement, creative visualization, breath work, creating and performing stories/songs, improvisation, and the use of VMT massage, which helps to facilitate muscular release for breathing and vocal production. I received a Bachelor of Music Education degree in Studio Voice from Montana State University, a Master of Arts degree in Vocal Pedagogy from The Ohio State University, and certification as a Registered Voice Movement Therapy Practitioner from VMTUSA in Martha’s Vineyard, MA.

Dulcimerjuly2005

Mountain Dulcimer Teacher

Although I live in the Billings area, I do make it to Bozeman somewhat often. I teach both acoustic and electric mountain dulcimer, and aim to equip my students with the tools and knowledge that I’ve picked up over the past 22 years of playing the dulcimer.

I’m currently a music therapist at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings, and often play music in churches and cathedrals throughout Montana. My music styles tend to focus on hymns and classical music, although I do jam with the Yellowstone Bluegrass Association and even do a bit of classic rock for fun.

Rates are generally $20 per hour, and I can provide free tablature for most public domain songs that a student wishes to learn.

I look forward to meeting other mountain dulcimer players in the area!
