Throwdown Challenge 1

This week’s Throwdown Challenge begs the question: Which of these two songs is the best to play while trying out guitar gear in a music store? When we asked everyone here, it turned into a huge debate that resulted in two people quitting and one guy getting fired. We need to settle this debate. To help everyone get their jobs back here at Music Villa, please vote now!

I suppose it’s ironic that i vote for Sweet Child of Mine even though i can’t accurately play much of it.
I think it’s better to test on because it uses more area of the fretboard as well as more variety in said area; plus there’s those percussive notes. They all work together to display the quality of said gear.
Smoke on the water has that riff beginning with that G/D chord, which is great, but much else of the guitar playing is (mostly)drowned out by the vocals.
The main reason I would want to work at a music store, other than to meet chicks, would be to be able to hear “Sweet Child “O” Mine” played over and over and hear the subtle nuances each player could bring out to put their personal stamp on this masterpiece of guitar literature. I hope that the management assigns at least one of the staff full-time to provide vocals so that the customers can concentrate on zoning into the instrumental groove. Maybe Blaise would be the best choice although I can understand if he doesn’t want to open old wounds
Smoke on the water, one of the most iconic songs of its time, which is generally one of the first songs a guitarist wants to learn to play. Although I believe Sweet Child of Mine is a more technical song and again another reason most players trying out equipment chose to play the Deep Purple song.
Smoke on the water will forever be the ultimate “music store trial guitar anthem”.
Over the years I have seen Enter Sandman by Metallica try and step up…but to no avail.
From the sketchy schizophrenic with sunglasses on and a backwards hat ,to the junior high school Green Day fan looking to graduate from Guitar Hero. Keep clunking away at “smoke on the water”.
Wrong notes and all!
