For over 180 years, Martin Guitars have established themselves as one of the world's premier guitar makers with a following of guitarists that crave the big "Martin" sound.
In 1936 Martin introduced the iconic D-45 dreadnought. During the manufacturing 2 of them (yes only 2) happen to have larger bouts. These extremely rare guitars are the inspiration for Music Villa's collaboration with Martin to create the Martin D-18 & HD-28 "Big Boy" MV Custom.
As with all "MV" (Music Villa) Custom Martins, these guitars have the features we love and have had the custom shop make for us, including a Sitka Spruce top sanded slightly thinner (.105") Adirondack 5/16" GE style braces and Genuine Mahogany one piece neck with Bone Nut on an Angle). The HD-28 has an Indian Rosewood back and sides while the D-18 has Mahogany back and sides.
A Bigger Bout for Big Martin Tone
What makes these models special is the slighter wider (5/8" wider) lower bout. This body size was used on only 2 D-45s back in 1936. This slightly wider lower bout, measures 5/8" wider than a standard dreadnought.
These guitars offer great power and projection when compared to the standard dimensions. The wider bout allows for incredible projection, making these guitars perfect for big rhythm parts and vibrant finger picking.
If you are looking for a unique Martin that has exceptional playability and huge tone, look no further than the Music Villa Custom Big Boy Models.
